Fundraising Coordinator and Volunteers


The duties of the Fundraising Coordinator are primarily to increase the contributions of individuals and groups to Pets Niagara by building relationships and exploring new fundraising opportunities from various sources. The ability to network is paramount for this volunteer position, since success in the role depends heavily on our coordinator being able to forge positive relationships with supporters. The Fundraising Coordinator will also work to raise awareness of work, aims and goals of Pets Niagara. The main categories of fundraising activity will be from community, corporate sponsorships and donations, legacy and estate gifts, major individual gifts, trusts and fundraising events.

More specifically, the Fundraising Coordinator will be responsible for motivating and facilitating supporters to maximise the funds they raise; inspiring new supporters to raise money, while maintaining and developing relationships with existing supporters; organising traditional activities, such as sponsored outdoor events and collections of donated goods and money;developing new and imaginative fundraising activities, many of which involve organising events; raising awareness of Pets Niagara and its work at local and regional levels, e.g. by giving talks to groups or seeking photo opportunities with the media; developing and coordinating web-based fundraising, online auctions and merchandise sales; increasing funds by researching and targeting charitable trusts whose criteria match the charity's aims and activities; developing and implementing a strategy for individual and corporate supporter recruitment and development; recruiting, organising and managing volunteers to carry out various functions within the charity; overseeing outside corporate fundraising, including employee giving and matched giving from employers; managing and updating databases to record donor contact and preference information; writing applications and mail-shots, using direct mailing to reach a wide range of potential and current donors; making risk analyses and balancing time-cost ratios to focus effort on the most appropriate fundraising activities with the highest chance of success; requesting and gathering items to be used for fundraising events; to distribute and post flyers advertising the fundraising event; working with multiple agencies across different sectors in order to establish good working relationships to influence decisions about fundraising; generating income, writing funding bids and fundraising to make projects sustainable; monitoring and evaluating activities and writing reports for funders and trustees; maintaining databases and undertaking any other administrative duties.

Fundraising Volunteers will assist the Fundraising Coordinator as directed by him or her in all of his or her fundraising activites.


Additional Qualifications

Please note that allergic or other medical conditions which would be aggravated when working around animals or while performing volunteer duties may be a disqualification.

Additional qualifications for all of our volunteer positions include:

* Successful volunteer applicants who are under the age of 16 years will be assigned light duties only commensurate with their physical and mental ability and skills. Volunteers under the age of 16 must have an adult attend their volunteer sessions with them and remain throughout the whole course of the volunteer's shift. The parents and/or guardians of volunteers under the age of 18 years will be required to sign any medical liability waiver and release forms as well as the Confidentiality Agreement on behalf of the volunteer and themselves. The provisions for and requirements of volunteers under the age of 18 years may be amended from time-to-time without notice.


Requirements

  1. All volunteers report to the Executive Director and, from time-to-time, to the Assistant Manager.

  2. All volunteers are required to sign a Confidentiality Agreement* prior to engaging in any volunteer activities.

  3. All volunteers are required to sign a Medical and Liability Waiver* prior to engaging in any volunteer activities.

  4. All volunteers are required to represents Pets Niagara in a professional manner at all times: in appearance, demeanor and following the behavior expectations set by Pets Niagara.

  5. All volunteers must obtain and provide proof of tetanus vaccination prior to participating in any of our volunteer programs.

  6. Teasing, neglect or any instances of animal cruelty will not be tolerated and will result in immediate dismissal from your volunteer position.

It is expected that every volunteer of Pets Niagara supports its mission and values. Pets Niagara reserves the right to modify, change or add to the duties of these volunteer descriptions at any time. You, the volunteer understands and acknowledges that this position is terminable at will at any time by Pets Niagara. All donors names and contact information remain the property of Pets Niagara and cannot be taken or used. All graphics and proprietary information remains the property of Pets Niagara and cannot be used for any other purposes.
