Japanese Colibri Porcelain Floral Lighter & Ashtray Set (Tax Inc.)

Vintage Japanese Colibri Porcelain Floral Lighter & Ashtray Set. This set is made of Porcelain and stainless steel molded in a hexagonal (8-sided) shape. The lighter is 4-1/8" tall and 2-1/4" in diameter. It's white in color with a floral pattern green, orange and pinks. Each of the (8) sides have alternating flowers. The underside of the base is covered in green felt to protect any table surface it sets on. The top center of the lighter base has a 1½" diameter insert that allows the lighter portion to set into the base. The lighter itself is all stainless steel, 1½" in diameter and 1½" tall. The flame adjustment wheel also has a small handle that make adjusting easier to use. The ashtray : is 1-½" tall and 4" in diameter. It is also hexagonal (8-sided) in shape. The flowers match the lighter base, but instead of being shown upright (vertical) the flowers are on their side (horizontal) around the ashtray. The ashtray also has (2) small ¼" notches (across from each other) for the placement of cigarettes.

In excellent vintage condition. Will require flint and fuel. Not tested.

Introduction to Colibri Lighters: If you are in your 20s or 30s you may have never heard of Colibri but your parents or grandparents most likely would.Colibri was a well-known brand for specialty lighters and other ladies and gentlemen's gifts. Unfortunately several factors influenced its decline until the company was sold in 1998. The main reason is the fact that it became easy to buy "disposable" lighters and then later it would have been considered impolite to buy a gift for a loved one that would perpetuate a habit that could eventually lead to health issues. Added to that, were the bans on TV advertising for smoking related items. Colibri lighters are something special and have increased in value over the years. It's the way that they gleam, the variety of designs and how like most antiques they conjure up a vision of by-gone era and class. Colibri began in 1928 by founder, Julius Lowenthal and became the leader in unique and quality pieces, until the company was sold in 1998.

This set is in near mint condition with no scratches, chips, cracks or defects of any kind. The floral colors are still bright and vibrant. The lighter and the ashtray have green felt on the underside to protect any furniture it is placed on.
